Welcoming our new Year 7 pupils

We were delighted to welcome our new Year 7 pupils to Platanos College on Thursday 3rd September 2020.

Our new pupils were greeted by Mr Bourke and Ms Williams with their first year group assembly which took place in the Key Stage 3 playground to ensure that all pupils could maintain social distancing. During the assembly all pupils were taught about what it means to be a pupil at Platanos College in line with the school motto ‘Attitude Determines Altitude’. Our pupils looked outstanding in their new uniforms and listened intently throughout.

Our new Year 7s were then assigned their tutor groups and met their form tutor and peers, before going on a tour of the school site. All pupils enjoyed their lunchtime, playing and socialising with their peers before being shown how to line up in their tutor groups at the end of lunch time to ensure a safe and orderly entry into the school building. Our new pupils showed that already they are able to meet our high expectations of outstanding behaviour and maturity.

After lunch the pupils completed lessons on the following topics:

  1.  Covid-19 – Pupil expectations
  2.  Being hygienic
  3.  How to develop organisational skills
  4.  How to communicate with others
  5.  How to resolve conflict
  6.  How to move around the school building in a safe and orderly manner.

The school day concluded with each tutor group being congratulated for completing their first day of secondary school in such a positive manner and it was great to see that so many pupils had already earned merits in line with the school CHABOP system. Whilst it was evident that our new Year 7s were tired after their first full day of secondary education, they were excited to return for their second day.
