Parent consultation on our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Policy

25 June 2021

As a part of your child’s education at Platanos College we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive PSHE [Personal, Social & Health Education] curriculum which is delivered in Portfolio for Life lessons. This subject area gives young people the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential.

The Department for Education has announced changes to relationships and sex education (RSE). These changes will come into effect from September 2021 and all schools will be required to comply with the updated requirements.

What does this mean?

This means that we’ll be reviewing our RSE curriculum and policy so we can be sure our RSE provision is appropriate for our pupils based on their:

  1. Age
  2. Physical and emotional maturity
  3. Religious and cultural backgrounds
  4. Special educational needs and/or disabilities.

As a school community, we are committed to working in partnership with parents and all stakeholders within it and as such we need your feedback to help us do this.

What are we asking you to do?

It is essential that as parents and carers you are aware of what is and will be taught, as well as having the opportunity to express any views you may have of the curriculum. We would like to invite you:

  1. To take the opportunity to view our draft policy and curriculum map (see below).
  2. Complete a questionnaire in order for your feedback to be captured.

How do I feed back with my views?

The RSE policy can be found here – Click here.
