In an Ofsted report published today (entitled "Unseen children") to mark 20 years since Ofsted first studied the achievements of disadvantaged children, it was highlighted that some children continue to be let down by the education system.

Platanos College was recognised as a good example of a school bucking this trend and performing well for its pupils.

Educational trip to RAF Brize Norton, 7th June 2013

On Wedesday 5th June, our pupils had the wonderful opportunity to attend an educational trip to the Royal Air Force in Brize Norton, Oxfordshire.

The visit was extremely enriching. Pupils were able to meet different professionals and apply the knowledge they had gained in school to flight planning and navigation. The pupils then had the lucky opportunity to board the Tristar airliner and fly out to the North Sea to observe Typhoon jets refuelling mid-air in a real operation!

Platanos College named as one of the best schools in the country by the Sutton Trust,  3rd June 2013

Platanos College was today named by the Sutton Trust as among the best in the country after an analysis of the 500 top-performing schools.

Recent research by the Sutton Trust revealed that many top-performing schools were socially exclusive as a result of their locality, but Platanos College bucked this trend.  The analysis showed that Platanos College was in the top 5% of schools with a significant proportion of pupils above the national and local average attaining good GCSE results regardless of their social background.
