Debating Society

Debating and public speaking plays a prominent role in the life of Platanos College pupils. There are many opportunities for pupils to engage in debating and public speaking.

An immense value is placed on debating and public speaking because we believe that it provides pupils with intellectual stimulation outside of the classroom and facilitates the development of higher order thinking skills that is applicable to all areas of life.

More recently, it also forms part of a key aspect of our pupils' learning of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance.

The college's Debating Society is now an established club for pupils to develop their skills on a regular basis and many different activities and competitions take place throughout each year. Our Debating Society have also had a number of successes over the years.
